The next HOST will be on may 13th at 6pm, entitled ‘peace’, it’ll take the form of a stations service, and this time we’re inviting all our visitors to bring their own.
So, what’s this station business then.
A stations service, is one where you walk around the worship area, visiting and interacting with zones or ’stations’ that have been set up prior to the service starting, they may contain something to read, listen to, think about, reflect on, pray about, actively participate in, or any combination of the above!
It could be anything as simple as lighting a candle, a simple ritual, something to read, write a prayer, watch a video clip/loop or just about anything really.
I’d love to help, what do I do?
The theme is peace.
/peace and quiet/reflection/peace of our lord/peace be with you/peace of christ/testament of peace/
Create something that is self contained for people to visit – i.e. it has things that people can engage with without you having to be there to explain it. So if there are instructions print or write them out for people to read and then add what you like in the way of things to look at or read, activities, small rituals, food for thought etc.
Do I need to turn up hours beforehand?
No, don’t worry! We’ll be meeting at 5pm to set up, and the service will start at 6pm, when you turn up, we’ll give you a spot to set up in.
What about equipment?
We have some TV’s, a DVD player, VHS player that are yours to use if you require it, however others might need them too, so please contact us as soon as you know you need them, so we can allocate them for your use. We also have the ability to play music from CDs and mp3 players as general background music to provide some ambience. If you want to bring your own portable CD player etc. and earphones for your station then that is cool too.
So what happens on the night then?
HOST will start at 6pm with a short opening followed by the stations. Music that people bring will provide ambience while everyone walks round and visits the stations for as long as they like. Tea and coffee will be available during and after the service, so if you want to take 5 minutes out to reflect then you are quite welcome to do so
I’m not very good at this sort of thing…
Please don’t be shy or think what you do won’t be good enough. It can be really simple. Just work with an idea. We value creativity, participation and risk so go for it.
I need help
If you want to bounce your idea of someone else or if you need some technical stuff (a TV or slide projector for example) then please feel free to contact us.
Do I need to let you know what I am doing in advance?
Certainly not! We much prefer to be surprised.
Do I have to bring a station to take part?
Of course not, everyone is welcome whether or not you have done a station and even during the service, if there is something you’d rather not do, or spend more time doing then that is cool too.
