host is our response to searching, exploring and expressing the spirituality of our lives . it is continuing experiment fuelled by a desire to make sense of what we believe and how that affects our lives and the world in which we live
it evolves as we continue to search for and discover the elements and environment in which to understand and respond to God with honesty, integrity and creativity
this process is informed by the christian tradition and an open attitude to all aspects of spirituality, be they from other traditional sources or experiences in contemporary society

a host event can take many forms . some are linear acts of worship using multimedia to create a worship environment and explore a theme or share bread and wine . the next event might be an open space with installations to explore, the next a cafe night . we create whatever we think up the week before and see if it works . there is no priest or exclusive worship leader, instead members of the collective contribute elements to the worship : bible reading and ritual, art, prayer, meditation, music, activity, words and thoughts
host isn’t an attempt to be cool or to use contemporary trends to further christianity - if we’re using dance or pop music its because its part of our culture, if we’re using multimedia its because we’re used to receiving and sending information in that format, if we’re telling stories it’s because that’s how we share our thoughts and feelings in the pub and at work
we hope you’ll sense that this is a place and time alive in the spirit, an opportunity to respond to God in your life at whatever point you feel you are on your spiritual journey
the name host reflects that we host this worship for all to come to, that we gather together as God’s children - a host of people, and that we believe Christ to be present in the world as in the bread and wine at communion, a ritual we often celebrate at host
our resources pages gives some ideas that have come from host and other services we’ve done, they might help or inspire you if you’re creating your own worship
people are always asking what host looks like - so here are some photos and video clips of recent events
