Slides can be made with a normal camera using slide film, the price of the film and developing is usually more than for photographs though. Projectors can cost a small fortune but if you ask around you’ll find lots of people have them knocking around in the attic and will be happy to lend them to you. Be careful though as replacement bulbs for old models are expensive - it always pays to let projectors cool down after use before moving them.
The slides we use are a mixture of those we have made ourselves and those commercially available. There are lots of Christian slide sets about, pop into an SPCK or Wesley Owen shop and take a look - if they haven’t many in stock they’ll have a catalogue. Don’t allow yourself to be dictated by the tapes or booklets that come with the slides - be creative.
Those we’ve made ourselves are of religious topics and of the world around us. They include photos of stained glass windows which look great when projected, shapes made from torn paper, ancient Chistian icons, black and white photos, computer images [printed out and photographed - although you can image slides direct from disk] and celtic images. Good effects can be achieved by simply overlapping two projections eg. A painting of Jesus against a photo of the galaxy.
If you live in or near Bradford there is a resource called the Touchstone Centre which loans slides [and videos] for a small fee.
