RSS2handwashing ritual
this ritual is regularly used in our worship, we find it is a powerful act of confession and absolution which we can share without embarrasment and without the barriers of clumsy or inappropriate words . the prayers below were written for the first time we used this ritual, recently we have let the ritual speak for itself with just a short announcement of this being an act of confession and absolution
prayer for healing:
we pray for healing
to be washed clean
to be cleansed of sin and guilt
to be renewed in god
we pass this bowl between us and hold it for each other as we wash our hands
as a symbol of our desire to be washed clean
of all that separates us from each other
and from most holy god
hand-washing ritual during which mark 1:4-5 is read:
John the baptiser appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And there went out to him all the country of Judea, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were baptised by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
absolution:
may god the source of all creation
who suffers with us
cleanse us from sin and restore us to wholeness
